This Is Me

A Six-Week Guided Journal for Teens on Confidence and Self-Esteem

By S.J. Ferguson, Nidra Mind

Low self-esteem does not always look the way people think it does.

Sometimes it is loud — the voice that says you are not good enough, not clever enough, not attractive enough. But often it is quieter than that. It is holding back in class even when you know the answer. It is refreshing someone else's profile and feeling worse about yourself. It is the way you can dismiss a compliment in under two seconds but replay a criticism for days.

It can feel like just how you are.

It is not.

WHAT THIS JOURNAL IS

This Is Me is a six-week guided journal for teenagers aged 13 to 18. It is grounded in the Nidra Mind Method, bringing together neuroscience, brain health coaching, and practical mind management tools to help young people understand where low self-esteem actually comes from, and build genuine, lasting confidence grounded in values rather than performance.

This is not a journal that asks you to think positively or repeat affirmations you do not believe. It asks you to understand what is actually happening in your brain, and from that understanding, begin to do things differently.

WHAT YOU WILL FIND INSIDE

Week One — Meet Your Mind What is actually happening in your brain when self-doubt shows up and why it is not who you are.

Week Two — Where Did This Come From? The messages you absorbed about yourself, where they came from, and why the brain held onto them.

Week Three — Who You Actually Are Finding the part of you that does not change when things go wrong — your values, your identity, your anchor.

Week Four — Working With Your Reactions Practical tools for when the emotional brain takes over and how to come back to yourself.

Week Five — Building New Patterns How to actually rewire the way you think about yourself, deliberately and with repetition.

Week Six — Solid Ground Seeing how far you have come and knowing what to carry forward.

EACH WEEK INCLUDES

A brain health insight grounded in neuroscience A practical mind management concept Daily morning and evening journal prompts A weekly deeper reflection A specific brain health practice A weekly intention to set and return to An anchor phrase to carry through the week

WHO THIS IS FOR

This journal is for any teenager who has ever held back from something because they did not feel good enough. For anyone who compares themselves to others and always seems to come up short. For anyone who knows, somewhere, that the voice in their head is not being fair to them, but does not know how to change it.

It is also a thoughtful gift from a parent, teacher, or school counsellor who wants to give a young person something genuinely useful. Not advice, but real tools they can use on their own, in their own time, at their own pace.

WHAT MAKES THIS JOURNAL DIFFERENT

Most confidence books for teenagers ask you to fake it until you make it. This one does not.

This Is Me is grounded in brain health science — the understanding that how you feel about yourself is directly connected to what is happening in your brain, and that the brain is genuinely changeable. Every week explains the neuroscience behind what you are experiencing, so that the practices make sense rather than just feeling like things you are supposed to do.

The result is not performed confidence. It is the quiet, solid kind built from the inside out, grounded in who you actually are rather than who you think you should be.

A NOTE FOR PARENTS, TEACHERS, AND SCHOOL COUNSELLORS

Low self-esteem in teenagers rarely announces itself clearly. It shows up in avoidance, in withdrawal, in the gap between what a young person is capable of and what they allow themselves to attempt.

This Is Me gives teenagers a private, structured space to understand what is happening and begin to shift it without needing to talk to anyone before they are ready. Many young people find it easier to start with a journal than with a conversation.

If you are a teacher or school counsellor, this journal works well as a recommended resource alongside pastoral support. It does not replace professional help where that is needed but for the large number of teenagers experiencing low self-esteem without meeting the threshold for clinical intervention, it offers something practical, accessible, and genuinely useful.
