This Is Okay

This Is Okay

A Six-Week Guided Journal for Teens on Stress and Anxiety

By S.J. Ferguson, Nidra Mind

Feeling anxious does not mean something is wrong with you. It means your brain is trying to keep you safe.

The problem is that it does not always know the difference between a real threat and a Tuesday. The knot in your stomach before school. The thoughts that spiral at 2am. The message you read ten times before sending. The plans you cancel because staying home feels easier. These are not signs that you are weak or broken. They are signs of an alarm system that is working too hard.

And an alarm system can learn to settle.

WHAT THIS JOURNAL IS

This Is Okay is a six-week guided journal for teenagers aged 13 to 18. It is grounded in the Nidra Mind Method, bringing together neuroscience, brain health coaching, and practical mind management tools to help young people understand what stress and anxiety actually are, and learn to work with them rather than fight them.

This is not a journal that tells you to calm down or just think positive. It explains what is happening in your brain and body, and gives you real tools to bring yourself back to steady ground, because calm is something you can build, not just something you wait for.

WHAT YOU WILL FIND INSIDE

Week One — What Is This, Actually? Understanding stress and anxiety as brain responses, not character flaws, and why naming what is happening is the first step.

Week Two — When the Alarm Will Not Switch Off What happens when stress builds up over time, and why your baseline matters as much as the difficult moments.

Week Three — The Anxious Mind's Favourite Tricks Catastrophising, fortune-telling, and struggling with uncertainty: how to spot the patterns your mind falls into and step out of them.

Week Four — Calming the Body to Calm the Mind Practical, body-based tools including breathing techniques that work directly with your nervous system.

Week Five — Facing What You Have Been Avoiding Why avoidance keeps anxiety going, and how small, manageable steps help your brain learn that you can cope.

Week Six — Going Forward Building resilience you can carry with you, not a life without stress, but the confidence that you can handle it.

EACH WEEK INCLUDES

A brain health insight grounded in neuroscience A practical mind management concept Daily morning and evening journal prompts A weekly deeper reflection A specific brain health practice A weekly intention to set and return to An anchor phrase to carry through the week.

WHO THIS IS FOR

This journal is for any teenager whose mind runs faster than they would like it to. For anyone who has been told to stop worrying and wished it were that simple. For anyone who feels anxious a lot of the time and does not really know why, or who knows exactly why but cannot seem to switch it off.

It is also a thoughtful gift from a parent, teacher, or school counsellor who wants to give a young person something genuinely useful. Not more reassurance, but real tools they can use on their own, in their own time, at their own pace.

A NOTE FOR PARENTS, TEACHERS, AND SCHOOL COUNSELLORS

Anxiety in teenagers is often misread as moodiness, laziness, or a lack of effort. It shows up in avoidance, irritability, difficulty sleeping, stomach aches before school, and a quiet withdrawal from things they used to enjoy.

This Is Okay gives teenagers a private, structured space to understand what is happening in their brain and body, and to begin working with it without needing to explain themselves to anyone before they are ready. For many young people, a journal is an easier place to start than a conversation.

If you are a teacher or school counsellor, this journal works well as a recommended resource alongside pastoral support. It does not replace professional help where that is needed, and it includes signposting to further support. But for the many teenagers experiencing stress and anxiety without meeting the threshold for clinical intervention, it offers something practical, accessible, and genuinely useful.
